Transformational Tuesday

This morning there is a cold chill in the air. Snow hangs above waiting to flutter down and wash the world white. Those magical little white flakes that are so unique and individual, seemingly blending together in a flutter of fluff.

The house will be warm and the fire will be blazing. I love that. I love the feeling of the heat rising off of the flames, the flushed cheeks that appear when someone stokes the fire. I love the crackle and pop and smell of the smoke is it whisps out of the doors. I love everything about a cozy magical winter afternoon such as today.

The templates are cut for the bird houses. The fairies are invited to the party. I get giddy every time I look at the flower lights poking out of my herbs keeping me company in my art room. The energy of winter has slowed everything down. Music plays creating an atmosphere of calm and serenity. Truly, in these moments life is good. Add a simmering pot of soup to the stove and life becomes perfect leaving merely "good" far behind.

In moments like these when I have left my troubles far behind and entered another realm, a creative space of existing in "no time", things taste sweeter, life seems longer and I can live in a heart space filled with love. I suppose this is where playful fairies live full time and I suppose this is why we only glimpse the possibility of them. We only get to pop into their reality once in a blue moon, when snow looms and winter opens a secret doorway. I'll glady share that space today even if only in imagination. Even if only for a short while I will breath in the love and transform my spirit for one afternoon to dance in the magic.

Thought this was worth putting out there..... In the good ole days this wouldn't have even needed to be said. It was a given...

TWENTY THINGS THAT PARENTS SHOULD TEACH THEIR CHILD:

1. Play a sport.
It will teach you how to win honorably, lose gracefully, respect authority, work with others, manage your time and stay out of trouble. And maybe even throw or catch.

2. It is better to be kind than to be right.

3. Save money when you're young because you're going to need it someday.

4. Allow me to introduce you to the dishwasher, oven, washing machine, iron, vacuum, mop and broom. Now please go use them.

5. Pray and be a spiritual leader.

6. Don't ever be a bully and don't ever start a fight, but if some idiot clocks you, please defend yourself.

7. Use careful aim when you pee. Somebody's got to clean that up, you know.

8. Your knowledge and education is something that nobody can take away from you.

9. Treat your partner kindly. Forever is a long time to live alone and it's even longer to live with somebody who hates your guts.

10. Take pride in your appearance.

11. Be strong and tender at the same time.

12. A woman can do everything that you can do. This includes her having a successful career and you changing diapers at 3 A.M. Mutual respect is the key to a good relationship.

13. "Yes ma'am" and "yes sir" still go a long way.

14. The reason that they're called "private parts" is because they're "private". Please do not scratch them in public.

15. Peer pressure is a scary thing. Be a good leader and others will follow.

16. Bringing her flowers for no reason is always a good idea.

17. You will set the tone for the sexual relationship, so don't take something away from her that you can't give back.

18. A sense of humor goes a long way in the healing process.

19. Please choose your spouse wisely. My daughter-in-law will be the gatekeeper for me spending time with you and my grandchildren.

20. Remember to call your mother and father because I might be missing you.

 No Expectations
~Rumi ~

A spirit that lives in this world
and does not wear the shirt of love,
such an existence is a deep disgrace.

Be foolishly in love,
because love is all there is.

There is no way into presence
except through a love exchange.

If someone asks, But what is love?
answer, Dissolving the will.

True freedom comes to those
who have escaped the questions
of freewill and fate.

Love is an emperor.
The two worlds play across him.
He barely notices their tumbling game.

Love and lover live in eternity.
Other desires are substitutes
for that way of being.

How long do you lay embracing a corpse?
Love rather the soul, which cannot be held.

Anything born in spring dies in the fall,
but love is not seasonal.

With wine pressed from grapes,
expect a hangover.

But this love path has no expectations.
You are uneasy riding the body?
Dismount. Travel lighter.
Wings will be given.

Be clear like a mirror
reflecting nothing.

Be clean of pictures and the worry
that comes with images.

Gaze into what is not ashamed
or afraid of any truth.

Contain all human faces in your own
without any judgment of them.

Be pure emptiness.
What is inside that? you ask.
Silence is all I can say.

Lovers have some secrets

That they keep

Art Essence

I love when I pick something up, like old lace and cotton, and it slides off my skin like silky oil, connecting to my soul in the most curious way.
I love when I look at something old and I can see the old marry the new in my vision, becoming something all by itself with a will of its own. It is birthing, and I am the channel. I love when I see a mess of color everywhere, with ripped paper stuck to glue and bits of string, a desk buried in ephemera, and I know in my heart that something unusual is about to rise out of it. I love being breathless over an idea and I love to peal glue from my sticky hands after a full day of creating. I love the way the eyes of the Victorian women stare back at me begging for me to breathe new life into their still lifeless forms. I love art and I love all that it entails. It is the place where the real and the unreal meet, mingle and join and where every step taken is in faith of a final outcome. It is where created meets creator and where I meet God.....It is home.

The latest journal is finished!
Some ideas:
Add your own little messages or quotes to random pages to personalize for the perfect gift. You can also add your own personal photos with quotes randomly throughout the book to add a lovely touch of sentiment. The ideas are endless to create a heartwarming one of a kind gift!!
Now taking orders for custom journals~
They make great gifts. Photos from family are used upon request. Why not order now for mothers day and use antique photos of the women in your family?
Imagine getting a handmade piece of art with a photo of your great great grandmother on the front? Or a black and white photo of you and your best friend when you were children then filled with little quotes that make you think of the special times together. The sky is the limit!

A Finished Journal

I have just finished my spirit of the year journal. As always I am hesitant to make the first pen stroke. Like taking a first step in anything in life there is no turning back. I have considered selling it also but that seems sacrilegious to me. Especially given its original intent. I am quite sure I'll keep it and get started on filling it with all of my focus for 2013.
I am on to another journal and will post pictures of the process, not only so I document it, but also so that people can make their own if they prefer. I am thinking of making them for different reasons now such as for brides using scraps from their gown (when alterations are done) or pieces of fabric from their moms and grand-moms. I am also considering making more wedding pieces out of peoples invitations. I'll let all of this unfold as I work on the Right Brain Business Plan and see where things are taking me. Please join me at www.facebook.com/thebohemiancouch to share your own journey and art.

Spirit of the Year

Today is the first day of 2013.
I have decided that 2013 will be the year of authentic living. As I have in the past, I am assigning this year a specific focus. However, I have also decided that this year is going to be a year of practicing more spirit in my daily life as it pertains to connecting it with living here, on earth.
I recently purchased a book called The Essene Book of Days 2013. It is very connected to Celtic traditions, which appeals to my sense of heritage. It honors the wheel of the year with all of the changing energies and creates a bridge between Spirit and Earth. I have been dwelling in spirituality for a long long time now and neglected the fact that I am here, on earth. I think this has created a bit of imbalance in energy and made me long to be done with reincarnation. (I honor others thoughts on this subject but I am a firm believer in reincarnation)
This has led to some recent questions such as: What if I'm here this time to honor where I stand at the moment? What if I am to learn to "just be", wherever that is, in each individual moment? What if all of life really is a simple matter of honoring each second and blessing it as holy?
This is what I am filling this year with! A year filled with being fully present.
Today I am going to work on crafting the journal that I will use to get down ideas for each celebration in regards to art, celebrating, meals, observations and any other random thoughts that pop up.
In the Essene Book of Days today's focus is "The Angel of Joy"
How can I bring more joy into this day?
Lovely focus!
Besides cooking the traditional pork and sauerkraut for my family, I will be spending the day in the art room joyfully creating!
The next celebration coming up is St. Brigid's Day (Candlemas or Imbolc among other names). This will be the direction that January takes as we head toward a JOYFUL spring!
